Come Out and Play:
Hull is Second Best Place in the UK to Be Single

For those who are single and on the lookout for a partner or the love of their lives, there is certainly a good place to be in the UK: Hull. This is according to figures from the dating app Badoo, as well as the British Office of National Statistics. Both say that nearly half the population is single.

Singles in Hull are 44% of the population. This is a big comparison to London, where single people only number 31% of the population. Of course, Hull is not the best place to be single in the UK. That honour goes straight to Coventry where 47% of people live a solitary existence – or at least are on the search for a way out of it!

Smaller Cities Have the Upper Hand

Joelle Hadfield is a spokesperson for Badoo. According to him, smaller cities and towns tend to have more of an advantage for those on the search for romance. This is at least according to the data that their dating app pick up. Hadfield says that the idea of there being “more fish in the sea” in bigger cities like Birmingham and London is a misconception.

Hadfield elaborates...

In reality, this isn't always the case, and Badoo's data shows that in fact the opposite is true.

Hadfield goes on to say that those who are dating in smaller places will put much more effort into finding someone for them. This is simply due to their own belief that there is a bigger challenge when it comes to finding love. As a result, singles are putting themselves out there much more. This equals greater success in dating.

Singles Are More Successful in the North

Singles in the North, according to Badoo, are also in for some happy news. They have a distinct advantage when seeking out romantic partners. This is simply due to people here being a lot more open and willing to strike up conversations with strangers. In this particular area, Hull was still second: in Glasgow, 66% of singles would start conversations.

Mr Hadfield said: "It's striking that some of the most densely populated cities in the UK have a lower concentration of singles.

"The optimal place for dating success may not be big cities, as previously thought.

"We're noticing that smaller cities pose a greater opportunity for singles to meet a potential partner."
