Hop on Board with Airplane Dating App!
Want to Start Flirting Mid-Flight?

A Tinder-esque dating app known as AirDates has hit the Internet… and it’s not all that different from a lot of other mobile dating apps. The difference here is that it is focused on air travellers who want a connection – and possibly even seeking love before or after their trip.

According to a video interview that played out on Mashable, founder and CEO Michael Richard made it clear that this app was not a way of promoted the notorious “Mile High Club”. Rather, he stated, it was about “making connections in the air”. He himself used to travel quite a bit when working in real estate development. He was, “Being French and single and using a lot of dating app”. The only problem was that these apps didn’t work in the air.

"It was a pity to lose so much time," he said.

The concept of AirDates was born in order to help singles meet other single travellers. Richard announced that it is more about finding another person to talk to and get to know. People may then end up going on a date together once they’ve landed.

"On a lot of dating apps, you swipe, you match, but you never really meet," he said.

At the moment the app only sits in beta, however it has been rather popular due to appearing at the Disrupt London conference earlier in the week. After you sign up, flight itineraries can be shared and you’re able to find other people who flying to the same places as you.

FireChat technology is used so that data doesn’t have to be used up, or so that they don’t have to worry about using the rather shaky in-flight Wi-Fi when chatting with one another. At the moment this London-based app can be found in iOS. Richard, however, announced that it will be made far more widely available in February.
