Online Dating First Messages
How to Always Get a Reply
Anyone who has done online dating will know the stress of a first message. What exactly do you say, and how long will it take to get a reply, if at all? Well, thankfully there are a few things that you can do in order to speed up the process and ensure that your potential match messages you back.
When it comes to your first message, it’s apparently rather easy. There are certain “buzzwords” that you can use to achieve this and catch the reader’s attention (you are, after all, marketing yourself!). These include words such as “gorgeous”, “pretty”, “handsome” etc… Of course, don’t go overboard and fawn over the person. A little bit of subtlety and substance will go a long way.
People Respond to Words
Most people know that regardless of where you’re having a conversation (whether in real life or online), it can be rather intimidating. Community Manager at Plenty of Fish, Shannon Smith, stated that the dating site scoured around 60,000 messages in order to identify what the top words singles used were. These were the words that actually led to a conversation unfolding.
It would also go without saying that substance is also the key here. Plenty of women, for example, get compliments on a daily basis from men. In fact, some get so many compliments that they end up running out of space in their inboxes!
So, while using buzzwords is useful, it is also good to think about the actual content and meaning of your message. This is where things will change for the better and you’ll actually get a reply.
