Eliminating Catfishing with Coy:
Dating App Attempt to Get Rid of the Phenomenon

Catfishing is a phenomenon whereby an individual posts up a fake online dating profile. This is often done to lure unwary singles, for fun or to scam money of them. Now there is an app to ensure that you’re not being fooled by someone on the other end of the line. The app use 10 second first impression videos that people can use to have a safe environment in which to build a relationship.

A visual dating app, Coy's main objective is to match users on the basis of first impression videos which last between 10 and 15 seconds. This is the very first app which has an obligatory video profile, which is then used to search for matches. The process of creating fake online profiles is therefore pretty much eliminated. What’s also interesting is that Coy is open for absolutely everyone: LGBTQA+, young, old and more.

After you sign up, you can use the customization tools in order to search for the kind of person you’re looking for. Among them include things like distance, sexuality, age, gender and more. If you happen upon someone you might be interested in, videos can be sent as an introduction. Should there be a corresponding interest, video responses are sent back. Mutual interests can result in chat and connections can be built.

"The Coy App is really first-of-its kind because of the commitment to developing a safe environment for relationship building," says Adam Newell, founder and CEO The Coy App. "We are also the first app of this kind to include the transgender community. Our goal is to be inclusive and create a unique platform not seen before with online dating apps."

Video profiles are able to build a much more comfortable place for connections to take place. But one of the most important things, especially at the start, is to know who you are connecting with. Through this method it is possible to pick up ideas regarding the other persons’ personality, style, voice and more. All of this comes together to determine whether attraction and chemistry are happening.
